2-Oct-23 is the 154th birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. 2nd October is known as Gandhi Jayanti in India. MKG is known as Mahatma Gandhi and Father of the Nation for his contributions to not just India’s freedom movement but also defining and shaping the ethos of non-violence and inclusivity accepted by (most) Indians.
The world remembers this day as the “International Day of Non-Violence”.
What does the Sangh Parivar remember MKG for?
The Modi government represents its cleanliness mission with a logo in which one lens of a pair of Gandhi’s glasses has the word ‘Swachh’ written on it and the other has ‘Bharat’. These words do more to cloud our vision than unfurl it.
Satya Narayana Sahu captures the facetiousness of the “respect” Modi Government gives to MKG in his piece in The Wire
If MKG was alive today, undoubtedly the Modi Government and the growing numbers of right-wingers would be his principal adversaries. What is trending today? Few samples on X
