Society for Communal Harmony is a concerned citizens’ initiative since 1991 to promote unity and understanding among the people of India. It contributes in it through creative and constructive ways including cultivating the Constitutional values, support for efforts of promoting multi-religious togetherness, and interfaith dialogue. It is our belief that rule of law, economic-social-political justice and dignity of all men and women are three preconditions for maintaining and strengthening communal harmony.
The Society is deeply concerned about promotion of politics of hate and mobocracy in our society for quite some time. It has caused innumerable sufferings for the Hindus, Muslims. Christians, Buddhists, Sikhs and other religious communities of the Indian citizens. The strategy by major political parties of ‘divide and rule’ has been adding fuel to the fire. It is being patronised by powerful global economic players through media and other ways. We believe that our nation is headed towards a dark tunnel of fear and social violence in the name of religion and faith unless there is active and concerted citizens intervention.
We consider the proposed Ekta Yatra against hate as a necessary duty for all patriotic individuals and associations. This is the right step in the right direction.
Society for Communal Harmony extends support to the Kanyakumari to Kashmir Ekta Yatra and expects that it will result into strengthening the unity and fraternity among people of various religions and regions.
